Emma Corrin Wore a Bonnet and Black Claws to the Emmys

Listen, I get it — The Crown isn't for everyone. You're either obsessed with the royal family-centric show or you're not. (I… am not.) But after the 2021 Emmys, there's no way you won't know the most recent season's star Emma Corrin's name, if not because they're nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series than because of their incredible look for the night.

Corrin, who's nominated for their portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, arrived at a London Emmys party in an unexpected but incredibly chic combination: a strapless pastel yellow gown with a matching bonnet — yes, a bonnet — and matching fingerless opera gloves. But it's the beauty elements of their look that escalate it to an even more stunning level.

Stretching out from the fingerless gloves is the edgiest manicure. The shiny black nails would feel almost Halloween-y thanks to their length and pointiness if not for the soft shade of yellow making up the rest of their outfit.

And speaking of yellow, Corrin carried the color over into their Byredo makeup with a shimmering yellow-gold eye shadow on an otherwise un-made-up eye — just a bit of mascara. The rest of their makeup look by makeup artist Florrie White was also rather low-key: seemingly foundation-free skin, a healthy dose of rosy blush, and a hint of pink on the lips.

Needless to say, we're rooting for both Corrin and the possibility that the combination of bonnets and black nails becomes a huge fall trend.

60 Cute Acrylic Nail Ideas for Every Season

60 Cute Acrylic Nail Ideas and Designs for Every Season See Photos

Courtesy of Instagram/@bejazzeled.nails/@zeynailz/@adoreaxo

The wonderful world of acrylic nails is home to so many fun and innovative designs. Although they're frequently associated with extra-long looks, acrylics actually let you can experiment with different lengths and interesting styles, whether you want a short, square French manicure or a set of lengthy, neon-pink, stiletto-shaped nails. The possibilities feel fairly endless (and, at times, overwhelming), but this gallery of 60 images of acrylic nail art ideas can be a guide for your next appointment.

You'll want to make sure the design is one you love because these types of manicures are long-lasting. Acrylics tend to be harder than gel, nail artist Brittney Boyce previously told Allure. They're created by mixing a powder (polymer) — usually clear, but the powders come in a range of colors — and a liquid (monomer) into a dough-like consistency that can be filed and molded. From there, a talented nail artist can create whatever your imagination conjures.

And if you're worried about potential damage to your nails: don't be. The key to healthy nails with acrylics is proper removal with the right tools (like lots of acetone) and tons of time and patience. (This how-to guide has all the steps for at-home removal.) The right nail technician will be able to care for your natural nails regardless of whether you use acrylic powders, gel polishes, or gel extensions. So peruse this gallery full of acrylic manicures in square, stiletto, coffin, almond, and even lipstick shapes. We're sure that you'll be able to find exactly what you need for your next nail appointment.

Why You Shouldn’t Use a Razor to Remove Your Upper Lip Hair

Hairremoval razors on colorful background

All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

We learned so many beauty factoids while producing Allure's The Science of Beauty podcast (available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts) that we'll never struggle to make dinner-party conversation again. For example, did you know that hair is liquid before it sprouts on your head? Or that the word collagen is derived from the Greek word kolla, meaning glue, because it's basically responsible for holding our bodies together?

Those sorts of anecdotes make for fun party fodder, sure, but a tidbit that West Islip, New York-based, board-certified dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla shared during our episode on body hair has forever changed the way we approach one very important — but not often-discussed — aspect of our beauty routine: removing the hair above our upper lip. Let's just say our trusty face razor has officially been retired.

Mariwalla first defined terminal versus vellus hair. The former type is found in areas like your armpits and pubic region. It's thicker and coarser than the thin hair all over the rest of your body — including your face — which is called vellus hair.

Listen to Allure's The Science of Beauty Podcast: Ep. 11 | Body Hair

Dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla stops by to talk through all the many options for removing body hair, if that's what you choose to do.

Arrow

But, "if you do a lot of shaving, for example, on your face, in some ethnicities [vellus hair] can actually turn into terminal hair," she said, noting this happens most frequently to Middle Eastern and South Asian women. The phenomena — called hypertrichosis, a thickening of the hair — typically happens on the face and not, say, your legs. ("Facial hair follicles tend to respond to stimulus and hormones in a different way than the body does," Mariwalla said.) Shaving, in particular, can exacerbate this because, unlike tweezing or waxing, it does not remove hair at the follicle.

And whether you're genetically predisposed to hypertrichosis or not, if you make the (very personal) decision to remove the hair above your upper lip, you may want to reconsider using a razor for that reason. "When we shave with a razor, the ends of the hairs may become more blunt because they are cut on an angle," says board-certified dermatologist Laurel Naversen Geraghty, who practices in Medford, Oregon. (You'll definitely want to check out her guest appearance on The Science of Beauty, during which she schools us on skin-care acids.) "This can lead to a coarse feeling as the hairs regrow because rather than a soft, tapered hair tip, there is a more blunt or angled end to the hair." As in: You're left with stubble.

While you might not mind stubble on your legs, those blunt ends can be more obvious on your face and make hair "feel" coarser — even though its actual composition remains unchanged. And, adds Mariwalla, "you may end up in a cycle where you are shaving your upper lip frequently because you are only cutting it at the surface of the skin [with shaving]."

Laser hair removal can be an effective — though costly — long-term solution. (Depending on where in the country you live, a single session on the upper lip area can cost around $150, and up to eight treatments are required for lasting results.) Both waxing and using a depilatory cream are options that target the hair follicle, meaning you won't get the stubbly feeling that results from shaving. (If you go either of those routes, we recommend the No Mo-Stache waxing kit or Nair Cream Hair Remover for Face.) Each method has its drawbacks: at-home waxing can go wrong fast and some depilatory creams can cause irritation if used too often, says Mariwalla.

Of course, it wouldn't be fair not to acknowledge that shaving does have an upside: It's arguably the quickest, most fuss-free method for getting rid of fuzz.

But as with everything related to your body, the choice — to remove your upper lip hair or not, and if so, how — is entirely yours.

Mandy Moore Debuted Some New Bangs at the Emmys

mandy moore waving to camera on the 2021 emmys red carpetGetty Images

This Is Us is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2021 Emmy Awards, and star Mandy Moore is bringing the drama with brand new bangs and a voluminous high ponytail on the red carpet. As her stylist Ashley Streicher shared in a press release, “we decided to go a little Audrey Hepburn with it.”

The full bangs, expertly tousled, pair well with a few face-framing waves and classic red lipstick — all of which were designed to complement her classic Hollywood red Carolina Herrera gown. Streicher took her Instagram followers through part of her prep process, which started by setting up a work station made up of Garnier products and T3 tools. She had Moore wash the night before with Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Shampoo, then prepped and styled with Garnier's Texture Tease Dry Touch Finishing Spray and Flexible Control Hairspray. She used the T3 Lucea flat iron to smooth out and set the exciting new bangs.

In an appropriate theme for television's biggest night, Streicher revealed that Moore's brand new bangs are a bit of Hollywood magic. The bangs aren't a fresh cut, but a faux piece that Streicher created for the evening. “I made sure to have some of her natural hairline in there to keep them looking as real as possible,” she said.

Even with all the glam around her, Moore, who has an eight-month old son at home, is keeping the night in perspective. She's only posted one Instagram Story about the Emmys so far, and it's a photo of her breast pump — captioned “tonight's MVP accessory."

5 Reasons Why Your Eyelashes May Be Falling Out

Woman with freckles looking up behind a plantGetty Images

It's not unusual to, every now and then, find a fallen eyelash on your cheek — make a wish, right? But if you're noticing them more frequently or seeing several at a time, you may find yourself wishing for answers as to why your lashes are falling out.

Like the hair on our heads, the little hairs that frame our eyes go through phases of growth, rest, and shedding. But when eyelash shedding becomes more pronounced, it can be very disconcerting, especially if you're not sure why it's happening.

"Missing eyelashes can be a sign of internal or external causes, such as autoimmune disease or trauma," says Heidi Prather, a board-certified dermatologist in Austin, Texas. "Loss of eyelashes should be assessed by a board-certified dermatologist either in-person or by telehealth to rule out any treatable causes."

For treatable causes, there are several options including a prescription. "Latisse is an FDA-approved topical that works by supporting the natural growth cycle of the eyelashes and specifically extends the growth phase of hairs and extends their life before they shed," says Deanne Mraz Robinson, a board-certified dermatologist in Westport, Connecticut. "Because the serum has to work with your natural growth cycle, it can take a few months until you see results. Patience and daily use are important."

Prather will sometimes start patients on a non-prescription option first, like RevitaLash, which features a complex containing biotin, green tea extract, antioxidants, and peptides. "Because Latisse can be irritating for some people and can also result in redness or increased pigment in the areas treated, I will typically start with RevitaLash nightly to the lash line." If this is well-tolerated and the patient wants longer lashes, she'll then add in Latisse.

But before you can proceed with a treatment for eyelash loss, you have to know the cause. We spoke to the experts about the reasons you may be noticing a lack of lashes — and after you read about it, talk to your doctor.

"If you're experiencing something new with your hair or skin, it's always best to have your board-certified dermatologist take a look," Mraz Robinson says. "Sometimes it's related to a moment in time, but sometimes it can be related to an underlying medical issue and that's what we're here to help you with."

1. You may be dealing with stress or trauma

"It's common to see excessive hair shedding when we're experiencing a surge in stress," Mraz Robinson tells Allure, and hair can include eyelashes. She says this type of hair loss is called telogen effluvium, often correlated to a stressful event like an illness, surgery, or emotional stress. "The stress triggers more hairs than usual to enter the telogen or 'resting' phase of the hair growth cycle, which can leave your scalp, brows, and eyelashes looking thinner," she says.

Another way stress could impact hair thinning, Mraz Robinson says, is behavior. "We tend to rub our faces and eyes more when we are stressed or even pick or pull at our lashes," she explains.

2. You may have underlying medical conditions

Although Prather says trauma is the most common cause of eyelash loss, it can sometimes be traced to a medical condition.

"If you notice missing patches of eyelashes, it can be from an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata that can cause inflammation at the hair follicle, resulting in hair or eyelash loss," she tells Allure.

According to Mraz Robinson, hormones can also play a role. "If your thinning isn't correlated to stress or behavior and feels ever-present, you should talk to your doctor about other causes of alopecia, which can be due to hormonal and/or endocrine shifts," she says. The doctor may want to rule out conditions such as lupus or lichen planuspilaris, other autoimmune disorders.

3. You may be dealing with inflammation, infection, or irritation

"Infections on the lash line, such as styes, can often result in significant inflammation that can result in eyelash loss," Prather says, urging anyone with signs of an infection, like tenderness and swelling, to reach out to a doctor ASAP.

That's not the only cause of inflammation. In addition to alopecia areata, inflammation can be the result of products such as eye makeup or cleansers, Mraz Robinson says. "The eye area is extremely sensitive, so even if you aren't prone to reactions elsewhere on your body, this can happen," she notes.

4. You used the wrong lash extensions — or glue

Speaking of irritation, "Adhesives are one the most common causes of contact allergy and irritation on the skin," Prather says. However, the lash extensions themselves may be the more likely culprit.

"When choosing lash extensions, smaller and finer extensions are less traumatic on the lash," she says. Individual, fine lashes allow for a more delicate lash removal, she explains, whereas larger-volume sets use thicker lashes that can weigh down your natural lashes and be more difficult to remove. "I've seen patients come in with short, broken lashes from accidentally pulling off the lash extension and breaking the lash at the glue line."

Mraz Robinson says that a faux lash falling out may cause more panic than is necessary. "Eyelashes follow a growth cycle, so it can be alarming when you see big lashes with extensions attached falling down your cheeks," she says. "However, chances are you were losing that lash anyway, but without an extension attached you wouldn't have noticed the thin little wisp."

5. You're cleansing incorrectly

If you tend to wash your face pretty vigorously, you should consider toning it down around your eyes in order to let your natural lashes live out their longest possible life. "Tugging can prematurely cause hairs that are vulnerable and/or on the verge of shedding to come loose," Mraz Robinson tells Allure.

She recommends blotting eyes — not rubbing — and gently patting the area dry with a towel after washing your face. "Your lashes will thank you, and so will the thin skin in the eye area that is prone to wrinkling."

Prather says it’s important to use oil-based cleansers to remove makeup — especially false lashes. "Coconut oil or baby oil can be used as an easy at-home method to loosen eyelash glue. Start by gently tapping the oil onto the lash line and massaging it in. Use warm compresses to pat the area with water and repeat until you feel the glue loosen up," she says. The combination of oil and gentle heat can break down the adhesive without traumatizing your lashes or eyes.

The Best Manicures at the 2021 Emmy Awards

Extremely Long Nails Ruled the 2021 Emmys Red Carpet  See Photos

Getty Images

Last year's Emmy Awards were a virtual production, so there was no red carpet for celebrities to enjoy, which meant the glam was a bit more low-key than usual. But for the 73rd ceremony, the grand ole red carpet is back, giving stars the picture chance to make up for lost time — and they didn't disappoint. Folks look absolutely glamorous with slicked-back hair, intricate updos, and vibrant lipstick hues.

While the expertly coiffed hair and glam makeup is always amazing, we can't forget about the gorgeous manicures lying at everyone's fingertips. For TV's biggest night, stars were experimenting with lengthy nails, sharp shapes, and even a few 3D decals. Here are our favorite nail looks from the night.

Emma Corrin

Emma Corrin arrived on the red carpet in London wearing a pale yellow strapless dress with a matching bonnet and fingerless gloves. Poking through the glove holes are her very long, pitch black nails in a stiletto shape. This dark manicure is a shocking choice for the light dress, but we think it paid off well.

Taraji P Henson

taraji p henson posing at the 2021 emmy awards with ruby red stiletto manicureGetty Images

Henson's nails are full of length and drama. This gorgeous deep red shade complements the stiletto shape so well. On a few select nails lies red gems in various sizes that are a similar shade to the sinister hue. We love how the index finger on her right hand and ring finger on the left both have large diamond-shaped, ruby-colored gems.

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez kept it simple with a white manicure to match her gorgeous teal gown. But she definitely didn't shy away from any length over here. We love the long, stiletto shape paired with the classic white nail polish.

Cynthia Erivo

Now, Cynthia Erivo's white mermaid gown with a blue-and-green feather train is so stunning you have missed the equally as gorgeous French manicure she has. She opted for a C-curve white tip on a very long coffin shape. While this is a conventional manicure, if you look closely you can see a pretty swirly pattern on her index finger.

Rachel Lindsay

This mismatched black-and-white manicure belongs to former Bachelorette contestant Rachel Lindsay. In addition to the two-toned color, there is also a marble pattern on a few of the white nails plus some gold accents. The neutral manicure looks gorgeous alongside her strapless tangerine gown.

Ashley Nicole Black

close up of ashley nicole black holding black clutch with redandorange manicureGetty Images

Ashley Nicole Black vibrant two-toned manicure is the cutest. We love how the orange and red colors match the hues in her flowy gown. Her short nails are a great size and length for the slanted design.

Zuri Hall

close up of zuri hall gray french manicureGetty Images

Access Hollywood correspondent Zuri Hall remixed the French manicure to complement her long sleeve white dress. Her almond-shaped nails have slanted blobs of gray polish on top of a white-ish base rather than the typical French tips.

Akilah Green

close up of Akilah Green holding silver clutch with blue french manicure and silver jewelryGetty Images

French manicures are having a moment tonight. Writer Akilah Green showed up on the carpet with these stunning nails with blue tips that match her sequin gown. The oval shape is perfect for these short-to-medium nails.

Red carpet events like the Emmys are the time to experiment with new shapes and decals. Just because it's a formal event doesn't mean all the nails need to be short and nude, and these eye-catching manicures definitely prove that.

Elizabeth Olsen Debuted a New Blunt Bob at the 2021 Emmys

close up shot of elizabeth olsen looking off camera on the 2021 emmys read carpetGetty Images

If you're used to seeing Elizabeth Olsen in long, red hair and a Scarlet Witch headpiece, her look on the 2021 Emmy Awards red carpet may have come as a surprise.

The Wandavision star and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series nominee was decked out in a dress from The Row — better known as the label owned by her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley. But even though her tailored cream sheath has quite the pedigree, Olsen's gorgeous blunt bob stole the show.

elizabeth olsen on the red carpet at the 2021 emmy awardsGetty Images

Her hair was lifted just off her shoulders and parted to one side; if I had to put a number on it, I'd guess it was freshly cut within an hour of her debut on the red carpet. (Stylist Adir Abergel even posted an up-close-and-personal Instagram shot of the cut in progress.) It's a deceivingly simple cut, perfectly executed and shaped to show off both her gown's neckline and her diamond drop earrings.

What matches with elegant hair? Elegant, classic, no-frills (well, no visible frills, but it's an award show, people) makeup. Pati Dubroff used a lineup of Chanel products to create the look. "I wanted the face to have a soft structure with matte brown sculpted eyes and a diffused deep nude lip — all in the spirit of a ‘90s supermodel," she said.

Olsen's "deep nude" is Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Fidélité lined with Le Crayon Lèvres Lip Pencil in Nude Brun. The rich browns continued with a matte eye look, a blend of the shades in the palette Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow in Clair Obscur. Dubroff and Olsen opted to forego faux lashes, and instead amped up her eyes with "a few" coats of Inimitable Mascara in Noir Pur.

It's only fitting that Olsen, who posed as various sitcom stars throughout history on Wandavision, would continue to honor her Hollywood forebears with a sophisticated red carpet look. And best of all, now that she's shown she can pull off classic elegance on the carpet, she's free to start experimenting. Mary-Kate and Ashley (and Adir and Patti), we can't wait to see what you have in store for your sister for the Emmys in 2022.

Combining Finances: How To Do It Without Conflict

Source: Viktoria Slowikowska | Pexels

When my now-husband and I got engaged, we were repeatedly warned about the three dreaded “Fs” that threatened to wreak havoc in even the most stable relationships: family, faith, and finances. I (foolishly) wasn’t fazed. I adored my husband’s family, treasured our shared beliefs, and felt lucky with our stable careers and lack of debt. A few months into our marriage, I excitedly texted him a photo of a dreamy off-white accent chair I was lusting over.

My excitement was short-lived when he answered with “ANOTHER purchase? When will the bleeding stop?” Was he insinuating I was spending too much money? How could he, when he was the one who bought a $900 suit a few months ago? Needless to say, we went to bed with our backs to each other that night.

Thankfully, my husband and I can laugh about that conversation now. What started as a standoff over apartment furnishings opened the door to some honest conversations about financial behavior. Whether you’re getting married or moving in together, combining finances with your significant other can feel unnerving. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to make the transition smoother.

1. Identify your beliefs

It’s essential to understand and acknowledge the powerful effect that your upbringing has on your current mindset. Consider the financial values you were raised on. Who made the financial decisions in your household? Was money openly discussed? Identify which behaviors do or don’t mesh with your lifestyle today. Just because you’ve always done something one way doesn’t mean there isn’t a better way out there. Let go of the “should do’s” your parents, friends, and society have set for you, and take ownership of your own financial health

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by VH. (@vivianhoorn)

2. Know where you are financially

Come to the table with a complete picture of who you are financially. Before discussing finances with your partner, bite the bullet and assess your spending habits as well as your debt, net income, and any expenses. Carve out a few hours to review your purchases over the past three months, making note of the three to five highest categories. Some areas may surprise you (TBT to the summer I spent $400 on Ubers in one month). You may already begin to see areas you’d like to cut back on, and coming to the conversation fully aware can help when you’re assessing your finances as a couple.

3. Be open about your financial situations

Don’t wait until you’ve gotten married, moved in together, or otherwise committed your life to each other to share your financial profile with your significant other. Communicate often and openly about finances while you’re still dating. No one likes surprises (unless you have a secret inheritance, in which case, please surprise me), so be honest about what’s in your bank account, your savings, and any current debt.

Overall, let your partner know what it costs to be you (this cut and color ain’t cheap) to avoid stress down the line. Your significant other should do the same. Also, pay attention to how your partner spends money. Are they constantly living above their means? Do you generally spend money on the same types of things? It’s important to take note of your partner’s relationship with money while you’re dating and address red flags early on.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tayla Santos | STYLE BLOGGER (@taylasnts)

4. Get on the same page

Before you take that next step, discuss how your finances will work. The first big decision most couples make is whether or not to have a joint bank account, but there are many more administrative items to flesh out. Consider whether you will have a budget, which party will be responsible for paying the bills, and what kind (and how much) investing you’ll be doing. The good news is that whatever you decide now is not set in stone. Come back to the drawing board in a few months if your current system isn’t working.

5. Check your attitude at the door

For most couples, talking about finances is vulnerable. Use gentle and non-judgmental language when discussing your financial concerns and approach each conversation from a united standpoint by using “we” statements. Consider your partner’s feelings and preferences, and decide on a price point where you both need to check in with the other if you’re going over it. I’m not suggesting that you ask their permission every time you want to buy something, but shoot them a text along the lines of, “I’m thinking of buying this pair of boots, but they’re expensive. Thoughts?” While they probably won’t have a strong opinion on the boots, including them in your decision-making process will initiate an environment of respect and consideration.

How a Kitchen Island Can Transform Your Apartment

Source: Danielle Moss | The Everygirl

We all know that one of the hallmarks of apartment living is having to deal with a smaller-than-average kitchen. And that’s stating it generously—if you live in New York City like I do, your kitchen may truly be minuscule, if you’re lucky enough to even have a super defined prep space at all! I took many virtual tours of apartments that featured mini-fridges or refrigerators positioned in the living room. We city gals have truly seen it all when it comes to cramped spaces.

Recently, though, I’ve noticed that many fellow apartment dwellers have gotten creative when it comes to optimizing their storage and prep space. The secret? Purchasing a freestanding kitchen island that looks chic enough to elevate even the most dated of kitchen spaces and is also ultra-functional. Below, we’re showing you five faux island setups that will make you want to purchase one of your own—because let’s face it, throwing together an entire meal or engaging in some therapeutic Sunday afternoon baking can prove pretty challenging when your only available countertop is approximately the size of a standard placemat.

1. Turn your island into a coffee station

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Marianne Sides | The MA Times (@mariannesides)

Just because it’s called an island doesn’t mean that the piece you purchase has to be put in the middle of your kitchen—again, many of us don’t have the square footage or room layout for this to be a possibility. Instead, push your island up against a wall and turn it into a mini coffee bar or a place to stash bowls or fruit—you name it! By moving bulky coffee makers off of the main counter and giving them a designated home of their own, you’ll free up prep space close to the oven, which will definitely come in handy when cooking meals.

2. Or style it as a breakfast bar

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Carly | MY NYC APARTMENT (@mycityapartment)

If you’re not as concerned about counter space but are a bit more ambivalent about your seating situation, opt for an island with an overhang and style your own breakfast bar. Bonus points if the piece features storage cabinets on the other side; use these to tuck away unsightly appliances and bulky pots and pans.

3. Use an island to corral cooking essentials

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕄𝔸ℝ𝕂𝕊 𝔽𝔸𝕄𝕀𝕃𝕐 (@adventureintow)

Even a small kitchen cart can make a big impact. A piece like this one should be able to function in even the tiniest of cooking spaces and makes for a great place to set aside ingredients while cooking. There are always items that you need to keep nearby but can’t quite squeeze onto the countertop without risking a spill—we’ve been there.

4. Try this twist on the classic bar cart

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Miranda Schroeder (@thoughtfullythrifted)

Those looking for an ultra-functional twist on the traditional bar cart might want to source an island that offers plenty of wine glass storage. This makes for an ideal setup when entertaining, too—guests can easily serve themselves, and multiple people can gather around the island at once to fill their glasses.

5. Fill a narrow spot with a wooden piece

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Shelby | Pretty in the Pines (@prettyinthepines)

A thin wood console table can also serve a key purpose and is a great choice for long and narrow kitchens. Use it as a sit-down coffee bar and sip your morning cup of Joe somewhere that isn’t your stain-prone sofa!

When a woman at a large university becomes the first woman of color to step into the role of Chair, she is challenged with meeting the conflicting demands and high expectations of saving a failing English department. While the content is urgent in nature, it makes room for dry humor that will make you fall in love with the first season and long for a second.

If there’s one sign we secretly wish that we could all be, it’s a Leo. Known famously for being outgoing, firey, self-assured, and adventurous, Leos deserve a show that’s as bold as they are. And when we think unapologetically fabulous, we think of Real Housewives of Potomac. With five seasons, a ton of “did she just say that?” drama, and bold personalities all around, this reality TV series serves up all of the tea you could ever want.

Libras are lovers of balance, justice, and exploring multiple viewpoints, and for that, we can’t help but recommend one of our all-time favorites, Dear White People. Outer Banks

Number of seasons: 2

We love a Saggitarius—extroverted, optimistic, funny, generous, and a born-adventurer—just as much as they would love both seasons of Outer Banks. This action-adventure mystery has it all: on-point chemistry between characters, a wild treasure hunt, a bit of humor, and a ton of mystery that will keep you coming back for more. With a recurrent theme of friendship and an action-packed plotline, you’ll want to finish both seasons in one sitting.

Peaky Blinders

Capricorns are serious, tenacious, disciplined, detail-oriented, and intelligent, which makes them the perfect viewer for the critically acclaimed series Peaky Blinders. This British crime drama tells the tale of a notorious gang led by the fierce (and easy-on-the-eyes) crime boss, Tommy Shelby, who will do whatever it takes to move his family up in the world, no matter the cost. While the beginning of the series takes some setup and time to gain momentum, Capricorns’ affinity for discipline and detail is perfect for the high-investment, high-reward payoff.

Aquarians deserve a show as fun-loving, sweet, and quirky as they are, so it would be no surprise if Ted Lasso was at the top of their watch list. In this outstanding comedy series, Ted Lasso, a small-time football coach hired to coach a professional soccer team overseas with no experience, takes on an uphill battle of bringing a team together with optimism and underdog determination.
